Everybody is aware that a healthy diet is very beneficial as it is the source of our body’s nutritional needs. Doctors, as well as fitness professionals promote this but when people are presented with numerous food choices at the grocery stores, it seems too difficult to decide which food to purchase and how much of these food options should be taken each day. For your next food shopping, here are the healthy diet foods that should be included on your grocery list:
· Grains like oats and wheat that have soluble fiber. One cup of cereal and a slice of whole grain bread is enough to provide your day’s fiber requirements.
· Vegetables are good for everyone. They can provide you with vitamins, anti-oxidants, and fiber. 2 ½ cups of veggies is all that you need for the day, but be sure that you eat in varieties.
· Fruits are also a great source of anti-oxidants, vitamins, and fibers. Eating fresh fruits is the best although dried, frozen, and canned are allowable too.
· Milk is the best source of calcium, which is very important in our body. Other dairy products such as yogurt are also a good source of calcium. Children need 2 cups of milk every day while the adults need 3 cups daily.
· Meat and beans give protein to the body, which helps in building strong muscles. It is much better to broil or grill meats than fry them. Eat beans like kidney beans and peas to lower the fat in our diet.
Avoid solid fats like those present in margarine, lard, and butter. In spite of being tasty, they can increase the cholesterol levels and therefore, they should be limited. Also, read the labels so you can supervise the amount of saturated fats and sodium in the foods.
