Mom and Grandma had the right idea!  Eat your vegetables!  An apple a day keeps the doctor away.  Well there is truth in what they were telling us we need to phyto-nutrients from these natural plant substances.

Learn how to cook vegetables properly and you will enjoy them a lot more.  This will help you lose the extra pounds and increase your enjoyment of a necessary food.  Our parents generation tended to overcook vegetables.  Generally all they require is a little steaming.  It is also important to learn what a serving size is.  A medium sized piece of fruit or vegetable is a serving.  For example a medium apple, carrot or banana.  Get 5-10 servings a day.

Another way to get your veggies is to think ahead.  Prep them the night before before you go to bed peel and slice the veggies for dinner the next night.  This will get rid of any excuses you may have about preparing them.  Pack some carrots or celery and dip in your lunch.

Cut up veggies and fruit and put them in sandwich baggies and eat them whenever you feel like munching.  Take different ones so you get a variety of nutrients.

This will give you something to munch at work or school.  Instead of getting some high calorie treat from the vending machine you can feed your body.

Another great way to get your veggies in is to eat soup.  Preferably homemade.  If you eat store bought soup check for fat, salt and msg.

Have salad instead of fries.  A small salad counts as one serving of veggies. Get the dressing on the side and dip your fork in it and spear the lettuce.  This gives you the flavor but spares you the calories.  If you mix your own dressing put just enough oil in your dressing to counter act the acidity of the vinegar.

Raw or lightly steamed vegetables are the best for you.  They lose nutrients if they are overcooked, canned or frozen.

Here are some sneaky ways to get healthy stuff into your diet put some fruit or berries in your cereal.  Cook some veggies and use a blender to puree them and add them to your soup this super charges your soup because you get the pureed veggies and the chunks of veggies.  Pureeing is great for sneaking veggies into children’s foods.  Spagetti sauce can hide all sorts of wonderful things.

Make eating fun, set out to discover some new tasty/healthy recipes.

Healthy diets seem to be everywhere these days.  You cannot browse the Internet without reading something about an ad for certain diet plans that are supposedly very healthy and will help you in losing all the extra pounds.  Some of the ads are true but mostly they are merely propaganda or worse, precursors to a full on selling campaign for weight loss pills or exercise equipment.  Either way, it is difficult to discern which the real healthy diets are and which are not.

If you want to be sure with the diet you are going to use, the best course of action is to consult a dietitian and ask for a certain diet that will work best for you, all factors considered.  You may also opt to create your own healthy diets, with the proper amount of research of course.  Making your own diet plan will allow you to tailor fit your needs to your personal taste and making sure that you will be able to stick to the regimen.

Everybody is aware that a healthy diet is very beneficial as it is the source of our body’s nutritional needs. Doctors, as well as fitness professionals promote this but when people are presented with numerous food choices at the grocery stores, it seems too difficult to decide which food to purchase and how much of these food options should be taken each day. For your next food shopping, here are the healthy diet foods that should be included on your grocery list:

·        Grains like oats and wheat that have soluble fiber. One cup of cereal and a slice of whole grain bread is enough to provide your day’s fiber requirements.

·        Vegetables are good for everyone. They can provide you with vitamins, anti-oxidants, and fiber. 2 ½ cups of veggies is all that you need for the day, but be sure that you eat in varieties.

·        Fruits are also a great source of anti-oxidants, vitamins, and fibers. Eating fresh fruits is the best although dried, frozen, and canned are allowable too.

·        Milk is the best source of calcium, which is very important in our body. Other dairy products such as yogurt are also a good source of calcium. Children need 2 cups of milk every day while the adults need 3 cups daily.

·        Meat and beans give protein to the body, which helps in building strong muscles. It is much better to broil or grill meats than fry them. Eat beans like kidney beans and peas to lower the fat in our diet.

Avoid solid fats like those present in margarine, lard, and butter. In spite of being tasty, they can increase the cholesterol levels and therefore, they should be limited. Also, read the labels so you can supervise the amount of saturated fats and sodium in the foods.

For most people, dieting entails starving themselves or not being able to eat all the food they like to chow down.  This concept is what makes healthy diets very unattractive especially to people who are trying to lose weight and keep themselves healthy.

The diet plans you can read about online and on published articles on magazines and books can look very intimidating especially when you look at the kinds of food that you are allowed to eat and the portions at which they must be served.  It is easier to throw in the towel and go back to your own ways and just hope for the invention of an instant slimming machine.  However, if you take a closer look at the structure of healthy diets, you will see that there is a way for you to make your own version of them in order to better suit your personal taste without having to compromise their integrity.

You can tweak the composition of healthy diets by using the substitution technique.  This means that you have to follow the recipes except that you will find a tastier version of the ingredients with the same nutritional value.  This way, you can still enjoy eating without having to cheat on your diet.  In making your own diet plan, consider your main goals such as weight loss for a healthier body.  You can add or detract anything from the original meal plans just as long as you stick to the nutritional content that is being mandated.
