Carbs seem to cause a lot controversy and every dieter is worried about whether to eat them or not.  There are good carbs and bad carbs.  Good carbs are essential to a high-quality diet.   Carbs are present in bread, pasta, fruits, and vegetables. Avoid the ‘bad’ carbs sugar and white flour.

It’s all about how quickly your body breaks down the carbs.  The faster they convert to sugar the more weight you will put on.  You need them in your diet because they provide energy and aid in brain function.

Fruits contains vitamins A and C, fiber, and folate. Vegetables are also a good vitamin and fiber source; as a matter of fact, they usually contain a bigger range of minerals than other foods do. Whole grains can provide you with fiber, protein, and B vitamins. Legumes can provide you with protein, iron, and potassium these are all good choices for your carbohydrate consumption.

Cookies, potato chips, and soft drinks also contain bad carbs in the form of sugar and flour that will spike your insulin levels and help you store fat. Refined carbohydrates are linked to diabetes and heart diseases.  This makes these a dangerous choice.  There are numerous reasons to remove bad carbs from your diet.  They are  extremely high in calories and offer little in the way of nutrients they contain no fiber, fiber fills you up and keeps you feeling full.  So if you consume simple carbs you get more calories less nutrients and you will be hungry sooner.  That doesn’t sound good does it?

Keep away from processed grains and sugars.   Eat whole grains, fruits, and vegetables to maximize your nutritional intake.

Carbs fit into two groups simple and complex. A simple carb, is sugar and white flour they promote weight gain.  In contrast, complex carbohydrates promote weight loss. Health experts advise that people consume between 55 and 65 percent of their calories from complex carbs (fruits and vegetables and many other natural foods).

Also avoid fattening sauces and condiments such as mayonnaise and butter. By adding butter to your broccoli or mayonnaise to your potatoes, you can increase the calorie quantity exponentially, sabotaging your diet.

Neither the American Heart Association nor the American Diabetes Association believes that the glycemic index should be considered in weight loss plans.  The Diabetes Association concedes that different foods offer different glycemic responses, the Association’s leaders consider the most important issue is the number of carbs rather than the form of the carbs consumed.

There is still a lot of misinformation and confusion about carbs. You will find that after you change your eating habits your body will start to crave fruits and vegetables.

TCM (traditional chinese medicine) originated thousands of years ago.

Huang Di (Yellow Emperor) observed the sky, earth, nature, and the human body and set the foundation of what is now known as TCM. The HuangDiNeiJing was said to be written by him.  The Yellow Emperor is discussed in the legends of China he collected and formalised what is now known TCM.

The HuangDiNeiJing (The Yellow Emperor’s Inner Canon) - SuWen and LingShu, and the ShenNong BenCaoJing (Classic of Herbal Medicine) are earliest classics of TCM passed on to the present.

During the Shang Dynasty of China, medical principles were based on myths and legends, as well as experience.  They used too use hot water and wine as medicine.  They also employed the use of needles and bronze knives for doing surgery.

There were many advances in Chinese medicine during the Tang Dynasty.

So, what is Qi?

Qi is vital energy.  Qi is the foundation of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and it is considered as the force that animates the human body.

Qi flows through meridians (also known as energy pathways) in the body. There are twelve major meridians running though the human body.  It is over this network that Qi transmits messages from one area of the body to another.

Qigong’s origins are in China, it has now spread all over the world.  Some practicianers retain all the traditional methods others have combined Western practices and have evolved new forms. This explains why there are many different forms of Qigong in the world today.

All Qigong forms have one or some combination of the five main roots: Buddhism, Daoism, Confucianism, Martial Art, and Chinese Medicine.   All Qigong practice is grounded in the guiding principles of the five roots.

Qigong Master ianyou Hao, states that there are over 35,000 different forms of qigong exercises. Master Hao says that “A Qigong form is a specific mental and/or physical exercise or the coordination of a series of exercises all prescribed to train, develop and condition the mind and body.  These are for the purpose of health, healing, longevity, and opening the body and minds wisdom” (from Master Hao’s Qigong Instructor Training Course).

There are many forms of qigong.  The underlying theory is based on , energetic anatomy, and the principles of practice which are common across most forms. The system taught in my Learn Qigong Meditation Program is a complete system of meditative qigong, along with some simple movements to release tension and increase energy flow.

Your physical body is has spiritual energy body.  This spiritual body vibrates and it is also the body we are seeking to ‘activate’ in Qigong.  Every living thing has Qi; however some people can hold 10-1000 times the amount of a regular person.  ’Activate’ refers to the Qigong principle of filling up the storage center (Dan Tien) with Yang Qi thereby increasing the flow of Qi.

Qi healing is an ancient practice based on the Qigong breathing disciplines.  Qi can be used to treat almost any illness, physical or emotional, asthma, migraines, depression and anxiety.  It is based on the Qigong theory that all around us there is living “Qi Plasma” that permeates every square inch of the universe and throughout all of existence. During Qi healing, the practitioner uses specialized breathing techniques to first absorb Qi and then “pressurize” Qi in his or her Dan Tien, the body’s storage area for Qi, located behind the belly button. Qigong breathing practices create tremendous heat in the body, which builds up in the hands. The practitioner then places his or her hands on or near the person being treated, transmitting the Qi. People who receive this intense dose of energy usually have some immediate response. They may gently sway or undulate as the Qi energy enters their cores; some people will laugh, cry or have what they later call a “spiritual experience.”
