Why A Healthy Diet Is Important For Teens

The adolescent years are the phase in human life where development and growth of the body and mind takes place. As a matter of fact, throughout the adolescent stage, our body systems begin to function at its fullest. The value of healthy diet for teens can’t be emphasized enough. Our body calls for all the assistance that it can get and the one good means to aid proper development and growth is by eating nutritious food.

Studies have revealed that even teens are prone to obesity, hypertension, anemia, and heart diseases because of unhealthy diet. Unremitting fatigue and shortness of breath are the first indications of anemia in teenagers. On the other hand, this can be avoided through eating foods that are rich in iron such as green leafy vegetables. Obesity can often lead to heart diseases and hypertension. The eating of fatty foods is one reason for obesity. Twenty percent of the teens’ diet should be composed of meat, eggs, and milk. And at the same time, complement it with whole grains, vegetables, and fruits.

Also, teenagers should take 3 meals each day and make breakfast as the most important meal of all. Breakfast plays a significant part in both emotional and physical development of teens. Plus, it provides the adolescents the needed fuel to use up for the whole day and keep the energy up until lunch period.

Nowadays, because of the easy availability of junk food around, most teens are becoming alarmingly thoughtless about their health. Nevertheless, healthy diet will not just help with growing normally but with physical activities and studies as well. Certainly, teens can eat junk food now and again but it shouldn’t be a part of the regular diet.
